The Imperial Irrigation District awarded grants totaling $68,4000 to local schools.

The special project grants were made to 17 Imperial County school districts. The grant program was created in 2004 following the IID's acquisition of over 41,700 acres of acreage from Western Farms. The program ensures that property tax revenue stayed with local school districts. The grants funds ranged from $35.400 to the Calipatria Unified School District to $1,000. for several other districts. Grant funds are designated for use on projects that directly benefit students.
