The California Highway Patrol is investigating two accidents that claimed the lives 4 people, including a two-year-old boy.
On Saturday, at about 8:15 a.m., a small car traveling eastbound on Interstate 8 east of Mt. Springs Road ran off the road, onto the center divider, and rolled onto its roof. The driver, a 21-year-old man, his passenger, a 21-year-old woman, both from Yuma, Arizona, were ejected from the car and sustained fatal injuries. A 2-year-old boy was located in the car and had suffered fatal injuries as well. According to the CHP, it appears that neither of the adults were wearing seatbelts. The 2-year-old was in a child seat in the rear seat. The accident remains under investigation.
Monday morning at about 9:20 a.m. a 71-year-old woman was fatally injured when her car collided with another car on Forrester Road north of Keystone Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was northbound on Forrester and travelled directly into the path of a southbound car. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the southbound car, a 31-year-old woman, suffered major injuries and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment. A 1-year-old girl in the southbound car sustained minor injuries. The CHP says all parties were restrained at the time of the collision. The accident remains under investigation.
