(Spreckels Suger scheduled to close)....The plant is located at Highway 86 and Keystone Road near Brawley.

It has been announced the plant has been decommissioned and scheduled for closure. It will begin shutting down in late July of this year. The reason is economics. The plant has not been able to make enough money to cover costs. Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz said he was deeply disappointed in the scheduled closure. The Congressman urged all stakeholders to come together once again and exhaust every option to save the facility and the communities it supports.
