(San Diego State University earns an R1 classification)....That puts SDSU in the top 5% of research universities in the United States.

The classification puts San Diego State in a category historically reserved for top-tier, research intensive doctoral degree-granting universities. Only 1876 institutions nationwide are designated R1's. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education announced the prestigious designation. SDSU President Adela De La Torre said the designation was a testament to the hard work, dedication and innovation of their faculty, students and staff.
