( The Annual Red Ribbon Week starts this weekend)...The week was created by the Drug Enforcement Administration in the 1980's.

It is designed to honor the memory of DEA Special Agent Enrique Kiki Camarena, a native of Calexico who was murdered in Mexico by drug cartels. Calexico began the memorial and the DEA made it a nationwide event, not only to remember Kiki Camarena, but also to promote the fight against illegal drugs. Customs and Border Protection says they support the DEA by doubling down on their efforts to keep communities safe and drug free. The CBP concentrates on all illegal narcotics, but especially fentanyl. They are seizing record amounts of fentanyl and other narcotics, and they plan on increasing their efforts.
