A transformer fire early Saturday morning resulted in a power outage at Gio's Mobile Home Estates in El Centro.

According to the City of El Centro, initially, the power outage affected 16 homes but when a privately contracted troubleshooter attempted to repair the park's onsite transformer there was a complete power loss affecting all 271 homes in the park. The Imperial Irrigation District technicians and representatives of the mobile home park assessed the situation and determined that extensive repairs are necessary to fully restore power. The power outage is expected to last a few days. 

The owner of Gio's secured about 170 hotel rooms for residents affected by the blackout. The City of El Centro responded and is exploring temporary emergency shelter opts for the displaces residents and their pets. The Imperial Irrigation District is standing by and ready to restore power once repairs are completed.
