Nearly $1 million worth of methamphetamine was intercepted at the Calexico East Commerical Cargo Facility.
According to Customs and Border Protection officials, at about 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, a box truck transporting a shipment manifested as wooden furniture was referred to secondary inspection at the commercial facility. Non-intrusive scanning technology revealed irregularities in the furniture. Further inspection led to the discovery of false cabinet compartments. A total of 49 packages of methamphetamine was concealed in the false compartments. The estimated street value of the drugs is $928,000. The 29-year-old driver, a valid visa holder, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
