(April 16 recall ballots certified)....Monday, County Elections released the official vote count.

The final had been expected for some time. The Recall was a success. On April 16, Calexico voters were asked if City Council members Raul Urena and Gilberto Manzanarez should be recalled, yes or no. The final count indicates 3, 971 Yes votes for Urena and 1, 525 No votes. 72.25 % in favor of recall. For Manzanarez, there were 3, 878 Yes Votes and 1, 569 No votes. 71.20 % in favor of recall. The certified count will be delivered to the County Board of Supervisors at their next meeting on May 7 and they will be sent to Sacramento, as well. Urena has said he and Manzanarez were defeated by a low voter turn-out. The official count indicates a 25.69 % voter turn-out. Urena has said because of that, both of the recalled Council members would be on the November ballot. In November all five Calexico City Council seats will be up for election.
