A late Sunday afternoon traffic accident blocked eastbound Interstate 8 for about an hour.

The accident was reported at about 4:42 p.m. Sunday on eastbound Interstate 8 near In-ko-Pah. Apparently a car went out of control and crashed. Light rain was reported in the area at the time of the accident. A woman had to be extricated from the car. She was then taken to Ocotillo where an air ambulance was able to fly her to a trauma center. A child in the car was transported  from the scene and Imperial County Social Services was called to care for the child until family could be located. The accident remains under investigation.
