The US Marine Corps was officially created in Philadelphia on November 10th, 1775, during the American Revolutionary War. The Marine Corps turned 248. Traditionally, current and past Marines celebrate the day as if it were their own birthday.. A little known fact, the first Captain commissioned when the Marines were officially approved was Samuel Nichols, a former Quaker who had been kicked out of his community for joining the revolution.
