(Hurricane Hilary has reached a category 4)....Officials say Category 5 is possible before the hurricane hits land.

The Hurricane is moving up the Baja Peninsula. The National Weather service says remnants are expected to bring severe rain and thunderstorms to Imperial County, Yuma and much of Southern California. Imperial County Fire Department and the Office of Emergency Services says residents are strongly urged to take immediate precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of their property. Prepare an Emergency Kit, secure outdoor items, when driving avoid floodwaters, stay informed, and check on neighbors. Flash Flooding is anticipated throughout the weekend. Sand Bags are available to residents in some areas. Calipatria residents can get up to 10 sand bags today and Saturday from 8-10 am and 4-6 pm both days. The sand bags are available at the Public Works Yard 535 South Sorenson.  City of El Centro is offering up to 10 sand backs at the Old Post Office Pavilion parking lot at 5th and Olive from 3-8 pm Friday. Calexico sand bags are available at the Fire Station on 5th Street from 1-4 pm Friday and 8 am to 4 pm Saturday. County Fire is distributing sand bags to Imperial residents at the fire station on La Brucherie. Proof of residency is required at all locations.
