A stolen car led officers on high-speed pursuit Monday morning.
A car was reported stolen from 5th and Main in El Centro at about 8:44 a.m. Monday. The Toyota Camry was seen in the area of LaBrucherie and Adams about 30 minutes later and responding officers began to follow the car. The driver of the stolen vehicle led pursuing law enforcement on a circuitous route through the city while reaching sets of 80 miles per hour and running red lights and stop signs. The car then headed south on Dogwood Road, passing through Heber before going south on Kloke Road and into the City of Calexico before the driver abandoned the car in a residential area of the Border City. The car was recovered but an estimated $1,600 worth of tools and an iPhone were missing. A later search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a short-barrel AR-15 type gun. The suspect remains at large and the investigation continues. The Imperial County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Border Patrol, CHP and Calexico Police assisted in the incident.
