A load manifested as green beans contained more than 3,500,000 fentanyl pills.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Otay Mesa port of entry found the drugs Monday evening. According to the CBP, a tractor trailer with a shipment manifested as green beans entered the port. During an initial inspection, a CBP officer referred the driver and cargo for an intensive agricultural inspection. The trailer was scanned, and irregularities were noticed. A detector dog also alerted to the load. Officers were able to locate 308 packages concealed in the green beans. The packages contained over 776 pounds of fentanyl, more than 3.5 million pills with a value of $21.1 million. The 48-year-old man driving the truck was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
