A Yuma apartment was heavily damaged in an early morning fire.

Yuma Fire Department responded to the apartment in the 1900 block of South 1st Street shortly before 1:00 a.m. Tuesday. On arrival, firefighter located a fire in the bathroom of one of the apartments. The blaze was quickly extinguished and was confined to the unit where it started. The occupant of the apartment was not home at the time of the fire. The American Red Cross responded and provided assistance to the apartment occupant and occupants of a neighboring apartment. The fire apparently started in a bag of soiled clothes that had been saturated by cooking grease.
