Extreme high winds whipped through the Imperial Valley Tuesday.
Gusts up to 70 miles per hour were register at the Naval Air Facility El Centro. At the Imperial County Airport gusts reached 66 miles per hour. Sustained winds between 35 and 45 miles per hour were evident throughout the day. Scattered power outages were reported in Calexico, Imperial, Brawley, Ocotillo and El Centro. A downed utility pole and live wires caused a short-term closure of Forrester Road between Aten Road and Even Hewes Highway. Trees were reported blown over throughout the County. Strong winds and rain buffeted the San Diego mountains as well, making travel on Interstate 8 treacherous.
