A Brawley Police officer was injured Friday night after a confrontation with a suspect.
The officer had responded to the 500 block of Willard Avenue at about 9:45 p.m. after reports of a man acting erratically and vandalizing a residence. On arrival, officers made contact with 22-year-old George Mickle of Brawley and began to try to deescalate the situation. Mickle attacked one of the officers, striking him multiple times and causing what were described as severe injuries. Another officer entered the room, saw Mickle on top of the officer and the tackled him in order to stop the attack. After a prolonged struggle, officers were able to take Mickle into custody.
The injured officer was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital and treated for multiple injuries. He was later released and reported to be in stable condition.
Mickle was booked into Imperial County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder, Mayhem, Battery on a Peace Officer and Obstructing/Resisting an Officer. Mickle is being held on $1 million bail.
