(Board of Supervisors met Tuesday)...At the meeting they chose a new Chairman.

Outgoing Chairman of the Board Jesus Eduardo Escobar turned the gavel over to District 4 Supervisor Ryan Kelley. District 2 Supervisor Luis Plancarte was named vice chairman of the Board for 2023. The Supervisors also agreed to support Calexico. The Border City had adopted an emergency declaration because of the number of asylum seekers released in Calexico. US Immigration is releasing individuals and families who are seeking asylum in the United States. Calexico officials say they are not being notified when the releases are made, nor are they receiving any funding to support the people as they await court hearings on the asylum petitions. With the counties support, it is hoped the state and federal government will help house the asylum seekers. Calexico says the local shelters are at capacity.
