Work to close gaps in the border barrier near Yuma will begin next week.
The Border Patrol is scheduled to begin construction to close the gaps near Morelos Dam. There are four gaps located within a former Department of Defense border barrier project along the Colorado River near the Morelos Dam. The gap closure will tie into already existing infrastructure in the area. Most recently, the State of Arizona set up cargo containers to fill in the spaces before being ordered to remove the temporary barriers. According to the Border Patrol, due to the proximity of the Morelos Dam and the swift moving Colorado River, this area presents safety and life hazard risks for migrants trying to illegally cross into the United States.
