(Air quality continues to fluctuate)…Again, it was on the border.
Air Pollution Control District Director Brad Poiriez has said the Calexico area is the worst non-attainment area for PM 2.5 in the Imperial County. Sunday the Calexico Ethel Street Monitoring Station once again reached very high levels of the finite particulate matter. At 10:00 am the APCD issued an Air Alert for an Air Quality Condition of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. By Monday morning, the levels of PM 2.5 had lowered enough for an Air Quality Condition of Good in the Border City. The Particulate Matter 2.5 is created mostly from vehicle emissions. It is difficult to reach attainment in the Calexico area, since the abundance of vehicles are in Mexicali, many in line waiting to cross into the United States.
