22-year-old crushed under a van

(A 22-year-old man is killed in a single vehicle accident)….El Centro Police say 22 year-old Roy Mendivel Jr. was ejected from a rolling van early Saturday morning. He suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the van, 20-year-old Ralph Mendivel was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Police say the vehicle, a van, was traveling west in the 300 block of Orange in El Centro. At around 5:00 in the morning the van drifted onto the opposite side of the street, hit the curb and collided with a light pole and a utility pole, going up the guide wire of the utility pole and over-turning. As the van over turned, the passenger, Roy Mendivel, was ejected. The 22 year old was crushed between the van and the street pavement. The County Coroners office says the victim suffered fatal head injuries. The driver suffered minor injuries. He was booked into County Jail.
