Nearly a half-million dollars' worth of methamphetamine was taken off the street over the last weekend.

On Friday night, U.S. Border Patrol agents conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 8 near Campo. A Border Patrol K-9 team alerted to the SUV and agents were able to locate multiple foil-wrapped packages near the front wheel well and undercarriage. The packages contained approximately 128 pounds of meth with a street value of over $190.000. The driver was turned over to San Diego County Sheriff's deputies for further investigation.   

On Saturday afternoon at about 4:45 p.m., a Border Patrol K-9 team alerted to a truck at the Highway 86 checkpoint near Salton City. In secondary inspection, agents checked the gas tank and found over 166 pounds of liquid methamphetamine. A HazMat team was able to remove the liquid drugs. The meth has a street value of $250,000. The driver, a 39-year-old Mexican citizen was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
