(Reminder to Consumers)…It has been issued by the California Department of Public Health.
The reminder is for consumers to properly handle and cook raw chicken. It comes as the USDA Food and Inspection Service issued a Public Health Alert, warning consumers of illnesses caused by the bacteria Salmonella and associated with the consumption of chicken processed be 3 Foster Farms facilities in California. Doctor Ron Chapman, the state Health Officer, says consumers can protect themselves from illness caused by salmonella and safely eat chicken by following the proper precautions when handling and cooking poultry. He said it must be cooked fully at 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Chapman says that will kill the bacteria that are present. Consumers should also be careful not to cross contaminate cooked chicken with raw chicken or raw chicken juices. Keep them separate.
