(The County will update its General Plan)…..The update will be for the geothermal/alternative energy and transmission element of the plan.
Tuesday the Board of Supervisors agreed to award the contract to the Chambers Group. The Supervisors had to maneuver some money around, first. The County had received a $700,000 grant from the California Energy Commission to pay for the update. The grant, however, stipulates only $400,000 could be used for the update. The rest is to be spent on consulting, public outreach, reviewing current legislation and other elements necessary to the update. The Chambers contract was approved at $519,415.50. The difference was covered by using funds from a reserve account. The update is needed to give the County better control over where development happens. It is also legally required every five years.
