The Assembly Bill was authored by Assemblyman Luis Alejo from Salinas. The legislature approved the bill late in the recent session. The bill allows for an escalating minimum wage increase. According to the Bill, the minimum wage will go from the current $8.00 per hour to $9.00 per hour on July 1, 2014, and up to $10.00 per hour on January 1, 2016. Governor Brown participated in a signing ceremony in Los Angeles Wednesday morning. Another ceremony was scheduled to be held in Oakland during the afternoon.
