(IID Board approves Pilot program, at last)….The Imperial Irrigation District Directors made the decision Tuesday.
The decision did not come until after the issue was discussed in length. The District began taking solicitations for the 2013 on-farm Efficiency Conservation Pilot Program a year ago. Farmers signed up, and many began investing in the tools they would need to conserve water. They did this when there was no real program in place or a contract available. Tuesday the IID Directors voted 4-1 to adopt the program and prepare a contract that would benefit the grower and the District alike. Director James Hanks had several concerns and he cast the dissenting vote. The approval ends the Pilot Program in August of 2014. An extension of the program to the end of next year could be discussed then. The motion also calls for staff to verify any and all water conserved under the efficiency program.
