Woman arrested trying to smuggle meth

(21 pounds of Meth seized)…The seizure was reported at the Downtown Calexico Port of Entry.

This week, at around 11:45 in the morning. A canine team was screening vehicles when the detector dog alerted to a gray 2005 Kia Rio as the driver waited in line. The driver and the vehicle were escorted to the secondary inspection area. Custom and Border Protection officers conducted an intensive inspection, which included the use of x-ray equipment that led to the discovery of 15 wrapped packages of methamphetamine, hidden in the rear quarter panels of the vehicle. The meth weighed 21 pounds, with a street value estimated at $315,000. The driver, a 21-year-old female, Mexicali resident, was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations agents for further processing. She was later transported to Imperial County Jail to await arraignment.
