(Chariot Fire may have been caused by a spark)…The spark may have come for a Bureau of Land Management vehicle.
That is one avenue being investigated. Officials say they are looking at several possibilities. The Chariot Fire burned over 7, 000 acres near Mount Laguna. It burned for a week before finally becoming fully contained July 15th. The fire destroyed 149 structures before it was fully contained. Cal Fire says fire fighting costs topped out at around $11 million. Officials say they are pursuing several leads into the cause of the fire. The suspicious BLM vehicle burned about two miles from where the Chariot fire started. A spark could have traveled that far to set off the brush in the mountains. The BLM says the vehicle fire was separate from the Chariot fire. They say the vehicle burned while the officer was opening gates for first responders and notifying businesses of the fire in the Butterfield area.
