Rain helps fire fighters. More expected

(Mountain Fire still 68% contained)…The latest up date on the fire was issued Monday morning.

Cal Fire says the destructive fire has now burned over 27,200 acres. It started near the Mountain Center, close to Palm Springs on July 15. Since then the fire has destroyed two dozen structures, including 6 residences and possible six vehicles. Officials say all evacuations and warnings have been lifted. Evacuation Centers were closed Sunday night. Over 1,800 fire personnel remain on scene. Cal Faire says the fire is still burning in steep, rugged terrain. They say significant rainfall helped crews gain progress in their efforts. They say significant rain is forecast for Monday. State Highway 243 is open, but other highway’s and roadways remain closed. Officials say the cause of the fire may be man-made, but that investigation has not really started, yet.
