(IID modifies attic insulation program)…..The idea was to benefit more customers.
The better a home is insulated, the less residents pay on their power bills. In an effort to extend energy savings benefits to more Imperial Irrigation District customers, the IID Board of Directors Tuesday, approved modifications to the district’s attic insulation Energy Rewards Program. Under the changes, homes can now have existing attic insulation rated R-19 or less to qualify for the rebate program. The previous maximum was R-11. The R-value is a unit of measurement of resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the more heat is retained in the winter and the more heat is kept out in the summer. Additionally, the Board eliminated the year of construction requirement. The updated attic insulation rebate provides an incentive of 60 cents per square foot. To earn the rebate, the existing attic insulation in the home must be less or equal to R-19 and replaced with insulation with a minimum efficiency level of R-38.
