(Border Patrol agent fires shots at suspect)…The suspect was not hit.
The incident was reported early Wednesday morning near Campo. Officials say the Border Patrol agents were following two suspect vehicles near Forrest Gate Road. They say one of the vehicles turned around, drove up to the border fence, and occupants of the vehicle began jumping the fence into Mexico. The other vehicle had stopped along side the roadway. Officials say the Border Patrol agents stopped their vehicles, got out and began approaching the suspect vehicle. Without warning, the suspect vehicle pulled a u-turn, and began driving towards the agents. One of the agents opened fire on the vehicle, shattering the windshield. The driver pulled the vehicle over and stopped. It was determined he had suffered minor cuts from the shattered glass, but had not been hit by any of the shots. The suspect was taken into custody. But vehicles were searched and it was determined both carried a large amount of narcotics. The type of drugs was not revealed. None of the Border Patrol agents were injured. Two schools in the Campo area were locked down for about an hour, until they received the All Clear. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office was called in to investigate the shooting.
