(It is time to move forward with earthquake repairs)….The damage is at the El Centro Courthouse.
The damage is the result of the 2010 magnitude 7.1 earthquake. The second floor of the Courthouse received significant damage. The County has been negotiating grants and reimbursements to fund the repair work for a few years. County Executive Officer Ralph Cordova said Tuesday they could not wait any longer. The Supervisors awarded the contract to Caltec Corporation to conduct the repairs. Caltec had submitted the lowest responsible bid of $267,770. The Public Works Department said none of the 5 bids submitted were local. Cordova said it is anticipated the Federal Emergency Management Agency will reimburse the County with disaster assistance, but there is no guarantee they will reimburse the entire amount.
