(State of the County Address)…It was delivered Thursday evening by the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors John Renison.
The address was delivered to a large crowd at Rodney Auditorium in Calexico. The Address was 18 minutes long and it stressed the positive. Renison said in challenging times, Imperial County was able to maintain a balanced budget, with no lay-offs, furloughs or reductions in County services. He said health rates have remained stable and the retirement program is strong. The Chairman said Public Works spent almost $35 million to keep the County operating efficiently. More than $18.5 million was spent on roadwork throughout the County. He mentioned the formation of the Imperial-Mexicali workgroup, and the memorandum of understanding that established the Imperial-Mexicali Binational Alliance. Renison also mentioned the National Beef issue, and the efforts that are currently underway to keep the Brawley facility open. He said National Beef has a $400 million impact on the economy. Renison said last year was also a banner year for Renewable Energy in the Imperial County.
