(Air Quality Alert issued)….The Alert was issued at 8:00 am Thursday morning.

The Air Pollution Control District issued the Alert for the Calexico Ethel Street monitoring station. The Station registered very high levels of PM 2.5 for a Condition of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. The levels later increased on the Air Quality Index for a condition of Unhealthy. PM 2.5 is a finite particulate matter created mostly from vehicle emissions. PM 2.5 is dangerous for everyone, but in particular those with heart or respiratory disease, the elderly and the very young. It is recommended that those groups reduce physical activity. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends the sensitive groups may want to remain indoors until the particulate levels lower.
