(Border pollution overnight)…The Air Pollution Control District issued an Air Alert.
The Alert was issued at 1:00 am Monday. The 24-hour average of PM 2.5 had reached 141 on the Air Quality Index at the Ethel Street monitoring station in Calexico. The high levels of PM 2.5 translated into an Air Quality Condition of Unhealthy for Sensitive groups. BY 6:00 am the levels of the finite particulate matter lowered enough to change the Air Quality Condition to Good, but they began increasing again at 9:00 am Monday. At last report Air Quality was Moderate in Calexico. PM 2.5 is mostly the result of vehicle emissions. In Calexico the air pollution comes from the long vehicle lines crossing the border and traffic congestion in Mexicali.
