Driver was under the influence

(Alcohol involved in fatal injury collision)….The single vehicle collision was reported Saturday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol says the driver of the 4-runner was driving under the influence. According to the CHP, 23-year-old James Fink of San Diego was driving the vehicle in the Navy Bombing Range, near Emler and Huff Roads. They say because of the drivers intoxicated state, he lost control of the vehicle. Unsafe turning movement caused the vehicle to over-turn. A passenger, 22-year-old Kenneth Trussdale of San Diego was ejected from the vehicle, suffering fatal injuries. He was pronounced at the scene. The CHP says another passenger, 19-year-old Natalie Figueroa of San Diego, suffered minor injuries and was taken by Naval Air Facility Ambulance to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment. The driver, Fink, was flown to Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs for treatment of moderate to major injuries. The Highway Patrol has not said if charges will be filed against the driver, once he is released from the Hospital.
