(IID warns of a scam)…The Imperial Irrigation District says some of their customers have received bogus phone calls.
The District says the caller claims to represent the electric company. They request credit card information and threaten to disconnection if the information is not provided. The calls are not associated with the IID. Robert Fugett, general superintendent of customer service administration, says the district takes customer privacy very seriously. He says they encourage all customers to guard and protect their personal information. The District says when it comes to disconnecting a customer for non-payment, the IID does not call residential or commercial customers and demand payment. Instead, customers are notified by mail, door hangers or through the automated courtesy alert phone system. They suggest if you are contacted by someone you suspect may not be legitimate, hang up the phone and contact the district at 1-800-303-7756 to ensure the call is valid.
