(Long traffic lines are taking a toll)…Mostly on Calexico’s Air Quality.
The Local Air Pollution Control District has issued Air Quality Alerts almost every night since late November. The alerts have been for the Calexico area, and are due to high levels of PM 2.5. That is a finite Particulate Matter, created mostly from vehicle emissions. Mostly the levels of particulate matter lower by early morning. Friday, they have not. The Air Quality Alert was issued at 1:00 Friday morning. The Air Quality Index had reached 156 for a 24-hour average of PM 2.5, for a condition of Unhealthy. The levels were last checked at 9:00 am Friday and they had not gone down. It is recommended that sensitive people, those with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and small children, should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion. They may want to stay indoors until the pollutant levels are reduced.
