(MWD Board approves agreement with the IID)….The Metropolitan Water District Board vote Tuesday was unanimous.
The IID Board approved the agreement last week on a 3-2 vote. The agreement brings the IID into Minute 319, an amendment to the 1944 US/Mexico water treaty. Under the agreement, both Districts’ will share in the costs of upgrading the earthquake damaged water delivery system in Mexico in exchange for an equal share of conserved water resulting from the upgrades. The IID will pay $2.5 million, and receive 23,750 acre-feet of water storage credit. The Imperial Irrigation District says they want to use the credits next year to help pay back water delivery overruns.
