(The numbers were down over the Holiday weekend)….The Thanksgiving four-Day weekend is normally one of the busiest for off-roaders.
Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors, Ray Castillo, said Tuesday he was told there were 113,000 visitors at the Imperial Sand Dune Recreation area. He said that was less than in past years, but it was still a good number of people. The Bureau of Land Management says, for the most part, the weekend went well. There were, however, two fatal injury collisions. Medical calls were down to 63 over the four days. Officials say there were a variety of arrests, including visitors operating off-road vehicles while under the influence. The BLM and the County is now gearing up for the New Year’s weekend. They say that holiday draws even more visitors, and New Year’s is considered a drinking holiday.
