(34th Annual Farm Worker Appreciation Breakfast)…It will be held early Friday morning.
Very early. Volunteers will begin serving at 2:00 in the morning. The Breakfast began in 1979. It was hosted by the Employment Development Department as a way to show appreciation for the hard work put in by Farm Workers. At that time the Breakfast was simply Coffee and seat bread. This year’s event is hosted by the EDD, the Center for Employment Training, The City of Calexico, The Calexico Chamber of Commerce, The Consulate of Mexico in Calexico, and the Farm Workers Services Coalition of Imperial County. It is made possible through donations and contributions from growers and contractors, local businesses, agencies and community based organizations. The event will not only feature a full tamale breakfast, but also information and entertainment. It will be held at the One-Stop Business and Employment Service Center on Heber Avenue. They expect over 3,000 farm workers to attend.
