(3 suffer the effects of a freon leak)…Yuma Fire responded to a smoke alarm Thursday afternoon.
When they arrived at the La Mesa Care Center, they could not find any sign of fire. What they did find was a haze in one of the rooms. A quick investigation determined the air conditioning was leaking freon gas into the facility. The air conditioning unit was ordered removed, and the rooms were ventilated. Patients were checked by paramedics. Three were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for further evaluation, as a precaution. Several employees were also checked, but none transported. The facility had been evacuated, but that was lifted by 4:00 pm.
