(Marijuana found in load of watermelons)..The discovery was made by Border Patrol agents Wednesday. A truck loaded with produce had entered the Checkpoint on Westbound Interstate 8, between Campo and Pine Valley. Agents say the driver of the truck appeared nervous. They sent the rig to the secondary inspection area. A K-9 team searched the rig and its trailer. The dog alerted to the trailer. On top of a pallet of watermelons, the agents found two suitcases and a trash bag. There were 84 cellophane wrapped bundles of marijuana inside. The narcotic weighed 700 pounds and was valued at $420,510. The driver of the truck was identified only as a 37 year old Los Angeles resident. He was arrested and charged with drug smuggling.
