(The state is increasing efforts tackling the Fentynal and opiod crisis)....It is part of California's $1 billion crackdown program.

Governor Gavin Newsom says he is increasing the deployment of California National Guard members to the Ports of Entry in California. The numbers increase from 40 to 60 service members to be distributed to the ports. They will assist the Customs and Border Protection in their search of vehicles and pedestrians who may be smuggling fentanyl or other opiods and illegal narcotics. The program is beiung expanded based on its past successes in seizing fentanyl. The Department of Homeland Security says the majority of the fentanyl smuggled into the United States is by US Citizens and not migrants.
