The Imperial Irrigation District declared May 2, 2023, as Zanjero Appreciation Day.

The action, taken at their regular board meeting, recognizes the IID employees who deliver water from the district's lateral canals to customers gates. The IID's team of zanjeros, water patrolmen and water division coordinators collectively work 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week, to provide reliable water delivery services to IID customers. By the way, the word zanjero is derived from the Spanish word meaning " ditch-rider.
