The California Highway Patrol is investigating a Tuesday afternoon accident that claimed two lives.

According to the CHP, a 50-year-old Heber man was driving southbound on Dogwood Road south of McCabe Road when the SUV drifted off the road. The driver overcorrected and crossed back across the road and into the Dogwood Canal coming to rest upside down in the canal completely submerged. The driver and a 72-year-old woman, both Heber residents, were unable to escape the vehicle and died at the scene. The names of the deceased have not been released. The accident remains under investigation.
