(Air Quality turns Hazardous overnight)…The Air Pollution Control District issued an air alert at 1:00 am Thursday.
They say the 24-hour average of PM 10 in Brawley reached 319 on the Air Quality Index, for a condition of Hazardous. People with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children are the groups most at risk, but officials say a condition of Hazardous air quality could affect the general population as well. The US Environmental Protection Agency says all residents should avoid physical activity outdoors when levels of PM 10 are so high. They recommend postponing outdoor activity until the levels of Particulate Matter are lower. The APCD says there were high levels of PM 10 in the Niland area, as well, for a condition of Unhealthy. Air Quality has been Good for the rest of the County.
