Julian Fire Grows

The Chariot Fire has jumped Sunset Highway and has forced evacuation of additional residnts.

Cal Fire has ordered the evacuation of an estimated 120 additional residents in the fire area. The fire started Saturday afternoon east of Sunrise Highway and southeast of Julian. An estimated 3,000 acres have burned as of 12:45 p.m. today. 120 residences are threatened by fire. According to Cal Fire , over 1,100 fire personnel are batlling the blaze in rugged terrain with temperatures in the low 90's. There are 60 fire engines and 18 helicopters assigned to the fire. So far four minor injuries have been reported. Early this morning the fire was considered 20% contained but by noon that had been lowered to 15% contaimnet.

An evacuation center has been established at Joan McQueen Middle School in Alpine.
