(IID Board holds a special meeting)….The meeting was held late Tuesday afternoon in El Centro.
During the meeting the Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors approved a new fallowing program. The IID needs to create 181,000 acre feet of water in the next fallowing cycle to comply with their water transfer obligations. The District needs to enroll an additional 33,000 acres under the new farm unit fallowing program. The next fallowing cycle is between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015. The new program will pay $150 per acre foot of water, 80% or which will go to the landowners and 20 percent to the tenant farmer. Under the current program, $125 per acre-foot is paid, with 100 % going to the landowners.
