(Calexico CBP officers arrest two)….The arrests were in separate incidents recently.
One arrest was at the Downtown Port. The other at the East Port. In the first incident a 48-year-old Mexicali man drove his 2003 Buick into the Downtown Port. A canine alerted to the undercarriage of the vehicle. Customs and Border Protection officers found 20 wrapped packages of methamphetamine hidden in the rocker panels. The drugs weighed 28 pounds and were valued at $180,000. The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Medina Zamarano, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security investigations for further processing. The 2nd incident, at the East Port involved a 26-year-old Mexicali resident. Aelxei Garcilazo San Juan was driving a 2001 Suburban. A detector dog also alerted to that vehicle.. CBP officers searched the vehicle and found 31 wrapped packages of marijuana in the gas tank. The packages weighed 69 pounds and the marijuana was valued at $31,000. The 26 year old was arrested. The CBP says an immigration hold was placed on both suspects, which means deportation hearings will be held once the criminal proceedings are concluded.
