(Environmentalists want to stop “open riding” in the Ocotillo area)…They have filed a lawsuit to get it stopped.
The suit was filed in Sacramento Superior Court by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility and the Desert Protective Council Foundation. The suit contends the “open riding policy” allows off-roaders to wander off the designated off-road area. It says the policy allows the off-roaders to ride wherever they want, and not stay within the 85,000 acre designated area of the west Imperial County, east San Diego County. They say they are destroying environmentally protected wildlife and plant species as well as archeological artifacts. They have not said when the litigation would be heard.
